Sam produces a apparently naturalistic piece but in actual fact this is highly crafted. There are a range of location sounds and listening you can easily tell that these have been mixed. It’s important to recognise with soundscape that nothing is ever truly natural as the artist has made a range of decisions regarding the audio before you as the listener get close to it. The artist has chosen location, the sounds to record, the sounds to put in the final piece, the mix and finally the output medium. I will write more on the other end of the abstract spectrum (formalism) in a later post.
Sam’s original upload was the first piece SS1 followed by a 3 minute gap and then the final statement (SS2). Sam if you would like to comment on whether this was a deliberate creative strategy or not all well and good. If so i will add your comments and reinstate the original piece.
